With a research portfolio more than $513 million, Virginia Tech is more than just Virginia's leading research university. We fuel economic growth and innovation throughout the commonwealth.
    hands on shield

The university brings together industry, science, research innovation, and technological advances for strategic partnerships. Entrepreneurs find assistance and resources to bring their ideas to life.

Resources like the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, and the Virginia Tech Research Center – Arlington house significant collaboration between faculty, university intellectual property, existing businesses, and entrepreneurs. VT Knowledge Works, a technology incubator and business accelerator, provides a high-tech business acceleration environment for helping businesses grow and assists idea-generators with commercialization.

Providing research power, intellectual capital, and job creation, Virginia Tech stimulates growth and innovation and serves as a resource to help businesses become more competitive. The Research Institutes of Virginia Tech enhance the university's ability to address large-scale research opportunities by crossing traditional disciplinary and college lines. The seven institutes provide clients access to world-class expertise across many disciplines and to the scientific and technical capability of specially equipped, advanced laboratories.

The Apex Systems Center for Innovation and Entrereneurship (CIE) is the premier resource for Virginia Tech students, alumni and faculty innovators and entrepreneurs.

The center is named in recognition of a joint commitment of $5 million by four Virginia Tech alumni, Brian Callaghan, Ted Hanson, Edwin "Win" Sheridan, and Jeffrey Veatch.

"From their personal experience, these four donors have shown how you can be successful entrepreneurs, and I'm delighted they want to share what they've learned, inspire others, and be models for current students. Thsi gift is going to ensure that our center is a long-term success and has the resources to transform the role the business school can play in the university's innovation ecosystem." -Pamplin College of Business Dean Robert Sumichrast
